Keith W. Payne, 85, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota (formerly of Onawa, Iowa) passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Westwood Specialty Care Center, Sioux City, Iowa.

Private family burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Keith was born March 28, 1935, the son of Forrest and Blossom (Gries) Payne on a farm near Grant Center, Iowa.

Keith worked with his Dad on construction projects until he joined the United States Air Force. He served twenty-seven years in the military retiring at the age of sixty.

Keith married his wife Janet I. Peterson in Pipestone, Minnesota on March 23, 1958. To this union two children were born, David and Nancy.

Keith did construction work and worked for Willmot, Heisterkamp, and Lowe’s Implement in Onawa, Iowa. He also worked for Snodgrass Implement in Spencer, Iowa. He had his own welding shop in Everly, Iowa and then worked for Bernie’s Lawn & Garden in Sioux City, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of sixty-two years; son, David of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; daughter, Nancy and husband James Deming of Queen Creek, Arizona; sister, Gladys Bottema of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Terry and wife Janice Payne of Woolridge, Missouri; four grandchildren, Heidi and Rick Witrock of Milford, Iowa, Mellisa Payne of Spencer, Iowa, William Payne of Everly, Iowa, and Lindsey Potter of Mesa, Arizona; ten great-grandchildren; and very good friends, Duane and Tammie Cory of Sioux City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Blossom (Gries) Payne; in-laws, Chris and Cecil (Clark) Peterson; sister-in-law and husband, Myrlen and Darrell Wakehouse; brothers-in-law, Robert Arrasmith and John Bottema; and granddaughter, Rebecca Payne.
