Darlene was born in a farm house in Little Sioux, Iowa by a midwife. She was born on June 21, 1937, the second to the youngest of seven children: Eileen, Kenny, Juanita, Dwight, Virginia, “Darlene”, and Virdus who were born to Edger “Hayes” and Alice Christina (Carlson) Alton. She attended Little Sioux grade school and high school. When she was seventeen, she married Russell Dean Rounds and the couple moved to Corona, California, and they had Jeremiah Lynn. Three years later the couple split up and Darlene and Jeremiah moved back to live with Darlene’s parents. Two years later she married Ronald Davis and Vicky Ann was born, and later Carol Di-Ann was born. Two years later, they divorced and they moved back to Little Sioux, Iowa. Darlene’s Rheumatic Fever came back and it left a hole in her heart. She then met Donald Joseph White in Pisgah, Iowa and the couple were married at Niagara Falls, and they went to the Black Hills on their honey moon. They came back and were also married in a Catholic Church. They moved to Pisgah, Iowa and every Summer Darlene helped hoe beans and shell corn. She later divorced in 1976.

She was a live in Certified Nurses Aide. She enjoyed cleaning, especially the kitchen. On the television she loved to watch Joel Osteen, Catholic Mass, and Gunsmoke. Darlene treasured her family, looking at photo albums, and birthday cards. They always made her happy. She cared for all her patients and didn’t retire until she was eighty-two, when she felt ill.

Darlene is survived by her three children, Jeremiah “Jerrie” (Bernard) Binns of Red Oak, Iowa, Vicky (Henry) Heckman of Culpeper, Virginia, and Carol Stevens of Pisgah, Iowa; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one soon to be great-great-grandchild; one brother, Virdus (Pat) Alton of Kansas and his family; and many nieces and nephews.
