Leland’s family attended the Allen Creek Chapel and he received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 14. It was here that he met Irene in 1959, when she was teaching Bible School there.

As a farmer, he raised crops, cattle and hogs until they retired and moved to Onawa in 2007.

He also served the community as a member of the Monona County Farm Bureau Board, the Moorhead Coop Board, the FHA Board, the Monona County Fair Board, and the East Monona School Board.

Leland enjoyed riding horses, watching baseball and rodeos, and following his kids and grandkids through their various activities. He also enjoyed playing cards, reading, going to coffee, and hearing and telling a good story. Leland never met a stranger.
